Bushy Park and the River Dodder

We visited this park (which seemed gigantic after the puniness of Mt. Pleasant Square) in June 2020, at a time when the lack of pubs was growing especially irksome - takeaway pints are no substitute. Sean O'Rourke accompanied us as a dissolute third musketeer, and lent argumentative erudition and virtiol to our prattling. Like Mt. Pleasant Square, Bushy Park is very family friendly, but fortunately full of space abounding - you can easily desert the ice-cream trucks and playgrounds in favour of a largely deserted and secluded spot by the Dodder's lush and ravishing banks to down one's canny cargo. On a good day you'll spot many a squirrel or espy a heron on the hunt - they make their nests in the tallest trees and their seldom heard squawk sounds eerily prehistoric, like a throwback to the days of the dinosaurs. Bushy Park is also handily located near a vast Tesco and Quinn's off-licence in Templeogue up the road - in case the outdoor imbiber is travelling light or wishes to replenish his greedy stock! All in all, it is a most pleasant park that offers modest scenic beauty to spare, not least at the Dodder's glistening riverbanks, amid mounds of moss and marsh and towering trees adorned with greenest leaves. Many a log or stump or stone or mound makes for decent sitting or slouching, so long as you can avoid a wet arse - that habitual hurdle that comes with the territory for the roofless drinker!
