225) The Liberty Belle of Francis Street, The Liberties, D8

On the corner of Thomas Davis Street and Francis Street [1] (in the part of the Liberties known as the ‘Art and Antique Quarter’ owing to the BIMM music college and the multiple antique shops that cluster around here). The pub is an idyllic local watering hole. It sits carpeted, curtained, pillared, with stained-glass windows and many a knick at rest beside its knack. Quiet by day, noisy by night. Staff are accommodating. It’s home to a fine pint. If Guinness is your cry, they’ll even teach you how to pour your own, and give you a certificate for proof of excellency.

[1] Other lesser pubs on Francis Street include: Anti-Social: (a cocktail and fast food affair). The Jug: (formerly the Dean Swift) didn’t last long, now permanently closed. And reopened under the name of Jackie’s - a particularly sad and pathetic place for manboys to play board games. Drop Dead Twice: (formerly The Green Lizard, Tivoli Backstage, Stage 19). In 2005 whilst operating as the Green Lizard it made grim news. Local patron James Curran was murdered after being shot three times in the head at point-blank range in front of his friends at the bar. Is the current name a sinister reference? Update as of July 2022: the curse on this premises continues. The pub was completely destroyed by fire. Drop Dead Thrice.
