68) Karma Stone Bar (now: The Landmark) of Wexford Street, D2

Dark and charmless dump frequented by D.I.T. students and general sad sacks of all vintages. After frequenting almost all of the pubs on Wexford Street in a single day we eventually came to the last in line, this kip. So pissed were we that an eagle-eyed bouncer refused our entry in Whelan’s and so it had to be here. The Karma Stone has had trouble with its own karma throughout the years. In 2011 ‘all hell broke loose’ as a major gangland incident broke out involving the infamous ‘Fat’ Freddie Thompson which ended in several gruesome attacks. A year later saw five units of fire brigade called out to a blaze that broke out in the bar. It’s full of mirrors into which one can look at oneself and watch oneself drink, highlighting the shame of having gone in in the first place. Currently shut and just as well. Now reopened as The Landmark but not much seems to have changed.
