62) The Dame Tavern of Dame Court, D2

Previously a self proclaimed ‘French Pub’ called the ‘Van Gogh’ (even though Vincent was Dutch). A small pub with an even smaller bar upstairs which includes a glorious fire. Budding musician and actor Conor Hamilton of Sing Street fame works as a very capable barman. Scene of many a melodious Sunday sesh – some scenes from 1981's Educating Rita were also shot here.

Very dark within but the window seat affords a marvellous view facing The Stag's Head and Dame Lane, a veritable meeting of the waters rich in people-watching. Owing to its proximity to the bigger and more famous pub directly opposite, it was once fittingly named 'The Stag's Tail' - mockingly called the ‘Stag’s Arse’ at the time. But where's his bollocks?
