374) The Goblet of Malahide Road, Beaumont, D5

Nothing excessively special but it was a very welcome relief after the Ramble. Toothpaste-cum-Colgate-cum-spearmint wallpaper. We were treated to €4.70 Beamish, but only in the bar, naturally enough. The lounge is very long and capacious and one must walk into darker parts towards the back to release liquid. One thinks of Harry Potter when one thinks of the Goblet (of Fire) and indeed it has a very large fire indeed, although unlit at our time of visit.

A melancholy middle-aged lounge lady was keen to press foodstuffs on us but we cried off. A bizarre seat attracts a lot of interest and speculation, it’s the size of an organ or an overturned grand piano. Time drips slowly here during the day and patrons perch comfortably in alcoves supping soup. All in all - a traditional respectable boozer, and when we put our necks back in these parts - we shall certainly sip here again.
