55) The Foggy Dew of Fownes Street and Crow Street, D2

Established in 1901 with a name inspired by the famous Irish ballad. ‘No fife did hum, no battle drum/Did sound its dread tattoo/but the Angelus bell o’er the Liffey’s swell/Rang out through the foggy dew.’ Cue tears and tissues for Sinead O’Connor’s mournful rendition - and now we must think too of the unbearable Conor McGregor and his famous UFC entrance in Las Vegas. Located by the Central Bank. Loud and dark, costly and cavernous with a rock music theme.

'Absolute legends' both living and dead have been known to darken its doors including Republic of Loose front-man Mick Pyro who was spotted sinking a drink with speed and exiting through the lesser known backdoor onto Crow Street, as if given to fly. Looks like the kind of place whose toilets witnessed a lot of coke being snorted during Dublin's more tigerish years. Photos on the wall may bear sustained inspection if one was only arsed to linger any longer in this overpriced pit of shit - and many are, since money is there and can be burnt.
