Easier at this juncture to recall what we discussed within the bar than anything palpable about the externals of the bar itself. Memory coughs up a pitiful crumb of a fragment – high ceilings and a large front window. Has a sporting emphasis and is situated near Croke Park, so liable to clean up and make a killing in the match season. The pub was also the unfortunate scene of a murder in 1998 when one Gerard Moran was shot dead at the rear of the bar. It is believed that his killing was ordered by the IRA, following a row he had had with a North Dublin member of that body (maybe Dmitri of O'Connell's could a tale unfold if ever his lips were loosened and bold!). In 2015, the pub also made headlines for its shameless breach of health and safety laws – a dead rat, raw sewage and soiled toilet paper was found in their stockrooms. The inspector who made the discovery said he had never, in 17 years on the job, seen anything 'so disgusting'. Hit the link to read on [1]!
