154) Lloyd’s on the corner of Foley and Amiens Streets, D1

“My goodness my Guinness” is the massive advertisement painted on the exterior wall, yet they also serve Beamish stout. It’s partially ornate behind the bar with a centrepiece clock ticking; however, the clientele are questionable and suspicious, invariably falling into an unwelcoming silence if ever a newcomer has the cheeky temerity to enter. Our sole visit was dominated by a gargantuan TV screen loudly broadcasting then-Taoiseach Enda Kenny's Paddy's Day visit to the USA in 2017, the quaking Irish leader dwarfed by the White House's elephantine and largely orange incumbent. The pub also makes a cameo in Ulysses, at a time when it was known as Dan Bergin's. [1]

FOOTNOTE:

[1]  Opposite Lloyd’s can be found a very fine Victorian building (no.47 Amiens Street) which used to be Burke’s Bar, long since shut. How is this beauty just lying idle?
