50) East Side Tavern (now: Madigan’s) of Lower Leeson Street, D2
A late opener near Stephen's Green. Not in any way traditional, and keen to evoke a more Stateside atmosphere. Paying with cash here shall no doubt soon be a thing of the past as the card flashers and compulsive 'tappers' take over. Enrique Wedgwood Young came here as part of his very sedated 'stag night'.
Update as of 2019: The East Side Tavern was shut in 2018, but is now newly reopened and running as yet another of the 'Madigans' (a common name among Dublin pubs – indeed, statistics may yet prove it to be the very commonest thanks to the business chain). The new Madigan’s operates as a ‘bar and grill’ - light on the bar, heavy on the grill. This is symptomatic of the onslaught of redevelopments destroying Dublin pubs by turning them from cultural houses to glorified diners and providing the public with grease and gastritis. Can't say I'm all that keen to revisit... not for all the Guinness in Goatstown! You said it, Reddit.
