307) Darkey Kelly's of Fishamble Street, D2

Built on a slant [1], in more ways than one - reputedly once operated as a brothel back in earlier centuries, run by a notorious whore-mistress who is said to have murdered her own daughter, among others. She lends the current pub her name and was burned at the stake in 1761. Live music every night and interesting nicknacks on the many walls. Refreshingly, an excellent pint of Beamish is served, and for a very amenable price too, especially impressive considering its proximity to the banal atrocities of Temple Bar.

FOOTNOTE

[1] This famous Street is known for where Handel’s Messiah was performed for the very first time in 1742. Handel’s Hotel now stands in the place where the music hall once stood. If you’re taking a tipple here, be sure to check out the various plaques.
